Integrating Presence

When you awaken Monday morning from a weekend of joy and fun to an unfulfilling job, silence the inner voices of complaints. When the thought of returning to work begins to affect your mood and stress begins to pour over you remind yourself that you are not your job, it is merely an action that you perform to earn money. You are not your mood; it is a conditioned response to the thought of your work. Shift your focus to your breathing for a moment, sit in silence and remember that your essence is peace, love, joy & bliss and no matter how challenging your outer circumstance, these states of being are always a shift away.
When we base our identity on our job we lose ourselves with our job. When we place high value on our money, home, car, etc. and lose these things we lose a part of ourself. This is why people stress or rejoice over the loss or gain of these things.
There is no benefit in being unhappy. There is no benefit in being sad, depressed, anxious, hostile, jealous or angry. Many people believe they can perform better when angry or “fed up” or when they have reached boiling point. Although people tend to take action once they have reached this place, the emotions behind these moods are harmful to the body. The moods of anger & frustration cause a surge of stress hormones that are counterproductive to your health.
When you awaken the next day from a night of regret you are bombarded with thoughts of what you should not have done and what you will and will not do in the future. Remain present, quiet your mind and know God can only be found in the silence. You already know what you will and will not do next time without spending 20 minutes thinking about it. If you place your hand on a hot dish you will not have to regret and plan not to do it again. Shift your focus onto your breathing, remain silent for a short time and move forward in the direction you are drawn to.
We do what is most important to us. We think thoughts that are most important to us for the moment. How do you know this is true? Because it is happening.
Our intellectual mind says otherwise however. It will say the action you are taking right now is not the most important thing to you. Which is true? There are no accidents. The moment is what it is because that is what is meant to happen right now.
If you are brushing your teeth and thinking about your upcoming meeting what is the present moment? What are you most focused on?
We tend to detach ourselves from repetitive task such as washing dishes, brushing our teeth, taking a shower and driving a car. Learning how to train ourselves to remain present is essential to our evolution. The cause of our human suffering results from becoming lost in our thoughts. All disempowering emotions cease to exist when fully present because in this state you detach from ego, out of the human realm & into spirit.
Sit outside and focus on a leaf for 1 minute without entertaining any other thoughts. When something comes up, let it go and start all over. Do the same when someone is speaking to you.
There is very little difference between a person that reacts with a physical action after hearing or seeing something and a person that attempts to focus on the present moment and looses their mind to random thoughts.
When you are trying to lose weight and you are unable to control your thought impulses to eat fat, salt or sugary foods you have lost your mind to your thoughts again.
Often our actions seem to occur without thought because our conditioned response is heavily anchored into our nervous system. You will recognize there is a thought that precedes the action if you stop and observe.
No matter how strong the impulse to remain lost in your mind or to continue to do, think and live in ways you know are not best for you, it always comes down to how willing we are at the moment to do something different.
No matter how difficult it seems to remain present and not have our minds get over thrown by random thoughts, it is always your best option. Every time you step out of thought and into silence you become the observer of your thoughts and circumstances and have full control over them.
